After facing repeated rejection from local drama groups while trying to enrol her daughter, LeAnn—who has learning disabilities, ataxia cerebral palsy, and a speech impairment—Carol Darby refused to accept that the arts should be out of reach.
Determined to create genuine opportunities for performers of all abilities, Carol, together with her husband Ron and daughter Nicola, set out in 2011 to build a space where inclusion wasn’t an afterthought but the foundation.
What began as a family’s response to exclusion quickly grew into a powerful community movement.
Together, they founded Elektric Apple Theatre Group—a place where every performer is welcomed, supported, and given the chance to shine.
