THE BOOK THAT CHILDREN OF ALL AGES WILL CONNECT WITH
Mean Little Cow
A message from Michala Leyland, author of Mean Little Cow
The ‘Mean Little Cow’ book is aimed at 8 to 11 year old children and has been illustrated by my daughter, who didn’t believe she was good enough at drawing to illustrate a book

There’s also a beautiful letter inside from Your Best Friend’s Voice, written by my youngest, who has always been a natural nurturer. She was 11 when she wrote it, and her gentle wisdom adds a layer of comfort and reassurance that I know many children will connect with.
The heart of the book is all about helping young people understand and manage that inner critic — the “mean little cow” voice we all develop.
My hope is that it supports children in building emotional resilience and self‑esteem at a time when issues around mental wellbeing are becoming increasingly common. I see this book as a resource for parents, educators, and children alike: something that can spark conversations, build awareness, and become part of a wider effort to support young people’s emotional health.
Thank you, Robin, for helping bring this book into the hands of so many children and parents. Your support means the world.

What people say
A lovely book with a positive message for children who often doubt just how talented and valued they are.
As the author uses illustrations from one daughter and a message from the other, this reinforces the points made in the book about overcoming that inner voice that tries to stop you achieving your potential.
My daughter Boo wants to read it every night and has also given us notice on plans for us to write a book of our own. Her message to you all is 'this has got my confidence levels back up'. We couldn't be happier with it.

Inside you will find a 4 step technique to help with that MLC voice., as well as a really lovely letter of hope and encouragement written by Georgia Leyland.
I would recommend this book to any person of any age who has experienced that Mean Little Cow voice.
