The John Hulley Race brings together cyclists, runners and swimmers for a vibrant tri‑sport challenge across the city’s most iconic locations — from the wheels‑up start at Otterspool, to the fast 5K past the Liverbird Building, to the final 1500m splash at the Watersport Centre.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or soaking up the atmosphere, you’ll be part of a race day rooted in history and powered by the people of Liverpool. Every participant crosses the finish line with a finisher medal, race T‑shirt and a well‑earned healthy snack — plus the buzz of completing a challenge worthy of the city’s sporting legacy.
Registration opens at Coburg Wharf before the race begins at the John Hulley Statue, where the finish line and awards presentation bring everyone back together to celebrate.

Registration
Registration opens at 9:30am at Coburg Wharf (L3 4EB), where participants check in, collect race packs and meet fellow athletes before the action begins. Your pack includes your race number, route details and everything you need for a smooth start to the day. Once registered, you’ll head to the John Hulley Statue for the official race launch.
The Three Events
Each event celebrates Liverpool’s movement heritage and invites participants to push themselves in a supportive, community‑driven atmosphere.
20km Bike Ride
Set off from Otterspool and take on a fast, scenic route along the waterfront.
5km Run
A lively city run beginning at the Liverbird Building, perfect for both seasoned runners and enthusiastic first‑timers.
1500 Swim
A refreshing open‑water challenge at the Watersport Centre, rounding off the tri‑sport experience.

Awards & Celebration
The race concludes back at the John Hulley Statue, where the finish line energy peaks and supporters gather to cheer everyone home. Afterwards, athletes are invited to the Liverpool Yacht Club for the awards presentation — a moment to honour standout performances, celebrate personal achievements and enjoy the shared spirit of the day.
Every participant receives a finisher medal, race T‑shirt, and a healthy snack as a well‑earned reward for taking part.
